It makes sense that Shinola just announced its opening of another Michigan store in Ann Arbor: its products are quality, and are built to last. The store is known for its watches, leather goods, bicycles and journals. In fact, the paper in the journals is made by Edwards Brothers Malloy, right in Ann Arbor, and Shinola is quickly gaining a national reputation for its products. Mens watches are priced at $550 and up. If that’s out of your price range, check out its leather journals, wallets and other accessories.

For the Detroit or Michigan enthusiast in your life, check out City Bird, a shop that specializes in all things local. It’s run by two University of Michigan graduates, Andy and Emily Linn, and the store was opened in November 2009. In December 2011, Nest opened next door, which sells housewares and various gifts. City Bird is a great place to shop for prints, notebooks and other small gifts for “him,” and you can also check out its Etsy shop online.
