Spring is around the corner, and that will bring more art, dance and music to Detroit. Check this list to find the best events in the area.

The Blue Man Group is definitely not your typical art event, but it is an experience nonetheless. The group has traveled the country, but you can see them in Detroit this April at the Fisher. Blue Man Group "comines comedy, music and technology to produce a totally unique form of entertainment," and has been quoted by E! as "what every live performance aspires to be." Tickets can be bought online or by calling Ticketmaster.

"Memphis the Musical" will be performed at the Fox on April 17, and tickets range from $30 to $70. The show is about DJ Huey Calhoun, who loves R&B music, and Felicia Farrell, a singer that's ready to be famous. Memphis mostly takes place in the city of the same name, in the 1950s, and won four Tony Awards in 2010, including Best Musical. Tickets can be bought online, at the Fox or Joe Louis box offices, at Hockeytown Authentics (Troy, and no service charge) or at Ticketmaster.com.

Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo spent April 1932 through March 1933 in Detroit, with Rivera creating the mural cycle "Detroit Industry," and this DIA exhibition will feature their work. The showpiece is Rivera's drawings for "Detroit Industry," which have not been shown in about 30 years, and it will accompany approximately 70 other pieces of art. Photographs of Kahlo and Rivera will also be included. Tickets are required to view this exhibition.

An Evening with Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea

If you're in the mood for some jazz, check out Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea at the University of Michigan's Hill Auditorium this April. Hancock has had much influence on acoustic/electric jazz and R&B, and Chick Corea is a well-known pianist and electric keyboardist. The two have collaborated since 1978, when they toured together as a duo. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling UMS, and parking is available in structures nearby.

The Detroit Opera House will host the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater this March, where they will be performing classics and also new works by modern choreographers. The Dance Theater was founded in 1958 by Alvin Ailey, and has a reputation as "an international ambassador for American culture." Robert Battle has been the artistic director for the AAADT since 2011, and the company will only hold five performances this year at the Opera House.
