Detroit Firm To Demonstrate Natural Sanitizers At Industry Event

One of the most widespread challenges for restaurant and food service professionals is the elimination of bacteria and other contaminants from food products during food processing, production, and food handling. Safety conscious consumers are also becoming more aware of the need to sanitize fresh produce.

Microcide Inc., a Detroit-based company, offers an organic solution to the demand for safe and sanitized food products.

Pro-San products have been included in the United States Department of Agriculture's Bio-Preferred program and listed with the NASA Space Technology organization. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has also approved the firm's Pro-San sanitizing solution for cleaning fresh fruits and vegetables.

The product has a patented surface-active agent that washes off tightly bound bacteria and other contaminants. Pro-San's safe, non-toxic ingredients not only sanitize food contact surfaces but also make produce look fresher, maintain the original taste and flavor, and enhance the natural colors of fresh produce. Also, because the product is not a soap, Pro-San does not leave a residue on produce or require further rinsing.

Microcide will be demonstrate its Pro-San sanitizing products at the Michigan Restaurant Association annual meeting Oct. 19 and 20 at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi.

Pro-San comes as ready-to-use spray and a wash powder concentrate that makes a colorless, odorless and shelf-stable cleaning solution. The product is biodegradable, environmentally safe and is free of volatile organic compounds, preservatives, chlorine and animal products. VOC-free translates into pollution free breathing in homes and other enclosed spaces.

Pro-San kills up to 100 million bacteria in 30 seconds. An article in the Journal of Food Protection by University of Georgia scientists reported that the product was significantly effective on alfalfa sprouts. It was the only non-oxidizing product included in the tests that contained oxidizing chemicals such as hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide and peracetic acid. Oxidizing chemicals can destroy nutrients and vitamins.

The potential of Microcide's technology has been recognized by two premier US national agencies. The USDA has included Pro-San in the U.S. Export showcase and  the  NASA Glenn Garrett Morgan Commercialization Initiative.

Microcide develops unique nontoxic and environmentally safe microbicidal products for personal care, public health, food and agriculture industries through research and development.  Products are designed to help maintain good health, wholesome food, and a clean and safe environment at an affordable cost.
