Write To The White House
Students love writing with a purpose, and writing to famous person, such as the President or First Lady, can generate a lot of motivation to write.
826 Michigan, a non-profit writing center, has pioneered workshops on writing letters to Michelle Obama, where kids write a letter to the first lady, telling her about themselves, their family, Michigan, and inviting her to visit.
One copy goes home with the kids and families, and the other copy is mailed to Washington, DC. Hopefully, they will receive a reply from the White House.
