Powerhouse Co-founder's Son Convicted In Killing

The son of Powerhouse Gyms co-founder Norman Dabish has been convicted of first-degree murder and torture charges in the beating death of his girlfriend.

A jury in Detroit returned the verdict Monday in the case against 24-year-old Peter N. Dabish. He was charged in the March 11 slaying of 23-year-old Diana DeMayo of Novi.

Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey is pleased with the conviction. Speaking to reporters Monday, she explained what led up to the murder when the couple had just moved in together into the Fort Shelby Apartments.

"Based on witness accounts, he was evidencing some jealously because he thought that she had given her phone number to the valet and the bell man. She had given her phone number to the bell man and the valet because she wanted to get her car out the next morning," Lindsey said.

A message was left for defense attorney Domnick Sorise.

A medical examiner said DeMayo was killed from blunt force trauma after receiving 10 blows to the head. The defense has said DeMayo's head injuries may have been caused by trips and falls while intoxicated.

Dabish's late father co-founded Powerhouse, now called Powerhouse Gyms International, in 1975.

Debish faces a mandatory term of life in prison without parole when sentenced Nov. 18.
