Michigan's Early Sunday Liquor Sales Start Dec. 19

Sunday morning liquor sales in Michigan should begin in some locations on Dec. 19.

The Michigan Liquor Control Commission says Thursday it will begin to issue the permits needed for Sunday morning sales late next week. The permit needed for Sunday sales costs $160.

Local governments have until Dec. 15 to notify state officials if they opt to continue banning Sunday morning sales. The new law will allow Sunday alcohol sales starting at 7 a.m. Previous law banned sales from 2 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The Michigan Legislature passed the final version of the new law allowing Sunday morning sales in November.
