'Heads Of Detroit' On Display To Recruit DPS Alumni

DETROIT (WWJ) - Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Gerald Ford, Henry Ford, Rosa Parks, Mayor Coleman Young, Art Van Elslander, Elijah McCoy, "Bo" Schembechler Jr. and other famous Detroiters - or more accurately, their likenesses - again will be recruiting new members for the Detroit Public Schools Alumni Association.

Thanks to a loan from the Parade Company, the Big Head likenesses of 11 famous Detroiters will be in front of the Spirit of Detroit Statue, at the corner of Jefferson and Woodward, soliciting memberships from passersby Wednesday, March 30 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

The heads are among those seen every year in America's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Alumni Association is a membership organization that unites alumni and supports schools. Memberships are $25 for friends and alumni and $10 for students. Benefits include: a network of business professionals; notices of reunions and activities; exclusive discounts; special mailings; and camaraderie and pride in DPS.
