Matt Dery's Daily Update 4-19-11
Good start to the trip in Seattle for the Tigers. The bats awaken for 8 runs and Detroit can earn themselves a winning road trip with a victory tonight I game 2 at Safeco Field. Phil Coke on the hill for Detroit who has had 2 very good starts so far since being moved from the bullpen. Tigers will get news today on Victor Martinez's injured groin; a roster move may have to be made with just one healthy catcher Alex Avila right now.
The Red Wings will work out today in Glendale, game 4 tomorrow night and a chance for Detroit to get the sweep over the Coyotes. Vancouver shoots for this evening in Chicago who leads the Blackhawks in the series 3-0. Meantime the NHL announces it has a new TV deal with NBC and Versus which includes all playoff games starting next season on either network and a Friday after Thanksgiving NBC game.
