LANSING (WWJ) – Leave the pyramid for the Egyptians — Americans are now using “the plate” as the new guideline for how they should be eating.

Gwen Imes with the Michigan Department of Community Health says the plate is less abstract than the pyramid and really shows you what foods you should be nibbling on.

“I really love the depiction of the healthier food items like fruit and vegetables, it’s a very simple message, make half of your plate full of fruits and vegetables, I think it’s easier to remember, it’s visually appealing and I think it will promote healthier eating,” said Imes.
