Cost Of Flying Squeezing Travelers

ROMULUS (WWJ) - The cost of flying is putting the squeeze on everyone. With airlines adding more and more fees, it's at a point where they're collecting twice the amount of money compared to three years ago.

WWJ's Ron Dewey ventured to Metro Airport to speak with travelers to find out how they feel about those fees, which now account for a significant portion of an airline's revenue stream.

Ron found that travelers like Cyndi Berginski of Sterling Heights accept the airlines fees as a fact of traveling. Not that they like it, but they try to save money whenever possible.

"You know what, usually Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the cheaper day(s) to book your flights, Berginski said. "That's what I found."

When asked if she was still flying the same amount, Berginski replied, "I am. I am, a lot of it's business, though. It's company, so they incur the cost, not me. So, it makes a difference, too."

The cost of fuel and planes have airlines finding new ways to enhance their revenue to the point where fees and commissions now make up 13 to 30 percent of all airline revenue.
