GM To Build $130M Computer Center In Warren

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - General Motors says it will invest $130 million to consolidate global data operations to its technical center in Warren -- a move that will create 25 new jobs.

GM Vice President Terry Kline said the company will renovate and expand the existing Cadillac administrative building on the Warren tech center campus and create a brand new energy-efficient data center.

"The Enterprise Data Center will contain technology laboratories and a global information technology operations center that will serve as the hub for monitoring General Motors information technology applications around the world," GM Vice President Terry Kline told reporters, Monday.

GM said the center will help it keep pace as computers are used more to design vehicles and for safety, fuel economy and other functions.

"The data center will provide more safety and security for the GM data we use for our day-to-day opperations such as purchasing, finance, human resources, sales and marketing and customer care," said Kline.

The investment is part of a $2 billion investment announced last month at 17 facilities in eight states.

GM said the final phase will be finished by 2015
