Detroit Native, Ray Parker Jr, Performs At Windsor Festival

DETROIT (WWJ) - The creator of that famous Ghostbusters movie theme, Ray Parker Jr., is performing across the water this weekend. The Detroit native will take the stage at Windsor's Three Day Carrousel by the River.

"You get to pay one price and go all weekend and see a bunch of shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday night," Parker said.

Parker talked to WWJ's Chrystal Knight about his visit back home to Detroit.

"The best thing about the Motor City to me, is that's where I got my start. People have been listening to me there since I was 13-years-old. It's always nice to see all those familiar faces and be loved by the people who gave you your start," Parker said.

Parker began his career as a teenaged session guitarist playing for the famous Holland-Dozier-Holland songwriting team and played behind the likes of The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Spinners and Gladys Knight and the Pips. He moved to Los Angeles to play with Wonder and Barry White among others.

Soon after, he put together the band Raydio that went on to record hits that went gold including "Jack and Jill," "Is This a Love Thing," "You Can't Change That," "A Woman Needs Love Just Like You Do" and one of his biggest hits and best-loved songs "Ghostbusters."

Alexander Zonjic and Friends are among the performers at the Carrousel which kicks off Friday at 7:30. Parker and his band perform at 9:30.
