Sarah Jessica Parker Returns In "I Don't Know How She Does It"

LIVONIA (WWJ) - Sarah Jessica Parker is back on the big screen this weekend. Her new movie, "I Don't Know How She Does It" is in theaters now.

Parker's latest film is a far cry from "Sex and the City." In "I Don't Know How She Does It," Parker stars as Kate Reddy, a working mom trying to juggle a successful career and her role as a wife and mother of two small kids. And, while trying to "do it all," she misses one particularly important milestone in her son's life: his first haircut. That is somewhat of a traumatic experience for Kate, who tells the babysitter that "nothing is more important than the kids."

But, don't think of this movie as a "chick flick."

"Because it's a story about grownups and marriage and relationships; honor and responsibility," Parker said. "And those aren't unique to women, those are ideas that are important to everybody and there are men in this movie who play large and important roles."

Those men are Greg Kinnear, who stars as Parker's husband, Richard, and Pierce Brosnan starring as Jack Abelhammer, the head honcho at the New York investment firm where Parker works as an investment manager.

What resonated with Kinnear about this story?

"I just liked the chaos, the ride that these characters were on in trying to maintain a civil marriage and relationship and at the same time, balance family and work," Kinnear answered. "These are two people who had kind of a quintessential moment in their work life, and it's a story that plays out all the time, everybody's aware of it and I thought Doug McGrath (the director) had found a way to tell it in a very kind of entertaining and unexpected way."

Kinnear's character, Richard, and Kate find themselves struggling a bit when Kate scores a major victory at work. As a result, she has to spend quite a bit of time away from home, in New York with Jack, ironing out details on a proposal she's developed. At the same time, Richard has good news of his own: he's landed the first big contract of his solo career as an architect.

What's next? Plenty. And, as several of the characters in the movie ask in reference to Kate and her hectic lifestyle: "I Don't Know How She Does It." But, as mostly any working mom will tell you, she finds a way.
