DETROIT (WWJ) – An early-morning robbery and shooting played out at an east side Detroit gas station.

WWJ’s City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas reported the suspects used an SUV — which may have been stolen — to crash through the front window of the Sunoco station on Harper and Cadieux. Then someone shot the attendant in the arm and made off with the ATM.

Al Goodwin stops in the station every day on his way to work in Chesterfield Township. He told Thomas he’s not that stunned by news of the ATM heist.

“They doing that all the time,” Goodwin said. “But it’s so tight out here for people, I don’t know what kinda things, you know, people got going on in their head to survive. I really don’t know … and it seems like it’s getting worse.”

Investigators are still inside trying to pull up the surveillance video of the whole incident, which apparently was captured on tape.
