Made In Michigan: Torino Espresso Bar

The Torino Espresso Bar in Ferndale is the brainchild of Samer Abdallah and a partner.

Torino is patterned after the ones popular in Europe and big U.S. cities.

"It's the European style of dining, people coming in eating and drinking and hanging out for a couple of hours. Drinking coffees and kind of socializing, having family time and that type of stuff," said Abdallah.

This coffee shop has a twist.

According to Abdallah, its foods come from local farmers. They get their honey from Bloomfield. They attend farmers markets every week and shops at Detroit's Eastern market.

Abdallah spent nine years in Miami, Fla. learning the restaurant trade and he said that if all things go well with the Ferndale Torino location he would consider opening another one.
