Analysts Grade Detroit Mayor Dave Bing

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's time to grade Detroit Mayor Dave Bing. And as 2011 winds to a close, we're getting two different report cards.

Political analyst Steve Hood gives Bing a failing grade for 2011, mainly for not doing enough to head off a financial crisis in the city.

"An F for 'Franklin' ... because that's where he pays real estate taxes," Hood told WWJ Newsradio 950's Vickie Thomas. "It's simple. You pay taxes in the area that you care about."

Hood believes an emergency manager is coming in 2012. "I think the EM will be in place by April," he said.

Political consultant Adolph Mongo is slightly less critical of Bing.

"A passing grade ... just average," said Mongo. "He's going to have to step up his game up."

WWJ listeners have been sounding off on the topic on Facebook.

"B he is trying and its great to have an honest man running Detroit, but he needs to be tougher with the unions to get more concessions and there is still corruption that he needs to clean out from the Young and Kilpatrick regimes," wrote one man.

Another man wrote, "He gets an F.  There is no way around it.  He argued for a bigger budget than the City Council wanted, then just four months later warned of an emergency manager.  The two actions alone lead to suspicion.  He focusres on union concessions alone, while vendors have bloated contracts, there is duplication of the responsibility of services, and at the same time city services are at their worst ever.  He said he would streamline city gov't, but has done no such thing."

"Fat F+ because we don't have lighting in our area at night and his lighting is bright like north star and I do pay taxes in the city that's a dam shame this summer grass was not cut and when they come cut the city lots they did a horrible job and I did call for acton. Nothing was done about it. But dave bing grass was nice and pretty. They came everyweek and his place is owed by the city. What you think about that hell they cut a lot programs out this summer kids summer jobs was cut they could have done a better job then those half ass worker they sent this summer to cut the city owned land. I do have pics if you like to see them," wrote a woman.
