Deputy Fatally Shoots Drug Deal Suspect

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Wayne County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man Monday on Detroit's east side.

A man who was allegedly involved in a drug deal was stopped near Harper and Outer Drive on Detroit's eastside. As deputies were conducting an investigation, the suspect tried to drive away.

The deputy's arm was caught in the door and as he was being dragged down the road, he was able to grab his gun and shoot the suspect who died at the hospital.

The deputy was treated for his injuries and released.

"It is always a tragedy whenever there is a loss of life," said Sheriff Napoleon. "However, officers put their lives on the line every day to protect the citizens from offenders, they don't deserve to be run down in the course of their daily duties."

Detroit police are now handling the investigation.
