DETROIT (WWJ) – State lawmakers are currently reviewing legislation that targets the use of certain toy guns. A planned proposal before the Senate would make it a crime to possess a toy gun that has its required markings removed or by having a real gun that is made up to look like a toy.

State Senate Republican Rick Jones said that this has become a major problem, especially within the gang community. “People are taking imitation firearms that look real, cutting off the orange end and then threatening people,” he said.

Supporters of the proposed legislation have also cited a recent case where a police officer was forced to shoot a gang member who was aiming a toy gun without its required markings. Jones believes this proposal will be vital in preventing incidents such as this from occurring in the future.

“This is an important package to control this problem,” Jones said.

If the legislation is passed, people who possess these toy guns and use it to commit a felony, would be punishable for up to 18 months behind bars and be subject to fines.

Guest wrote “If you’re buying your kids realistic looking guns and then not supervising them while they point their realistic guns at cops, then its your fault if your child gets shot.”

What Guest did not mention is that the above behavior is simply boot camp in America’s, er, ethnic centers.

Let’s see; I’m a criminal and I’ve decide to violate the law and commit a crime. In aid of which, I’m going to use a toy gun.

I guess I won’t commit that crime now that I know that having that toy gun is also a crime.

/sarc (did I really need to do that?)

They should pass a law that all legislators should be required to pass a critical thinking and basic logic course before being allowed to submit any bill for passage. Anywhere.

Let’s have a law against stupid laws.

Detroit has lawmakers? What, are they all on parole now?

Has common sense been lost in this country? Honestly outlawing toy guns. If a perp/criminal is using a toy gun to commit a crime, well then charge him as if he was using a real gun and treat the situation as such. The intent is still there from the criminal. No, but lets make some toy guns illegal! What is going to be next? Plus for those extremists, no that doesn’t mean to shot a kid who is playing or pretending to point a toy gun at a Police Officer or Citizen!
Everyday and every media article I see/read this wonderful country is doing a rapid descent into the depths of a Socialistic and Nanny State!
Where has personal accountability, responsibility, and maturity gone? Oh yeah, that is for the Politicians/Government to do for us? I forgot that!

First, disarm the public…then they will have to bow down to whatever, and whomever…

I can’t believe what I’m reading here. Does anyone have the statistics on how many police have been shot and killed by six year old children in Detroit wielding handguns? If you read these comments you would think it happens every day. What are the actual numbers? I’ll bet the number is zero. I suspect what we have here is another cowardly, pandering politician with a cure in search of an ill. I think we would all be better off if this jacka$$ would stick to actual problems rather trying to get his name in the news with garbage like this and the passage of more stupid laws which are a bane to our personal freedoms. Rich in New Mexico.

If you commit a crime using a gun, you should be thrown into jail and the key thrown away.

Little by little, all the ne’er do wells would be eliminated from society.

Life could resume the way it was before liberals took over the judicial system.

  8. WakeUp says:

With control freak politicians like that, is it any wonder no one wants to live in Detroit?

  9. FunnyBot says:

Hahaha and the police state marches on. What a pathetic race we have become. We are scared of little kids with cap guns now.

Yeah yeah I know cops.. you just want to “Make it home alive” and that 6 year old with his roll of caps and his cowboy cap gun is just SOOOOOO Scary and dangerous lol

How about the police just catching the criminals and the courts putting them in jail? Kids would be able to be kids if the criminals were not there.

  11. RMF says:

How much will it cost to build all those little kiddie prisons.

Another stupid law to take away freedoms of Americans.
CNN would not let this stay on their site because it is true, and they know Ron Paul can beat Obama in the presidential race. See this amazing Video of Ron Paul He predicts in 2002 all of what has happened in the Obama Administration. This is the guy to elect as President. He is much more experienced than the rest.

  13. WC says:

The only ones who will suffer is the low-budget filmmakers who use toy guns in place of real ones. This law is not a good idea.

  14. W says:

They should outlaw arms (you know those things with hands on them), then nobody can point a gun at anyone.
