Apple Fans Bolt To Buy iPad 3

NOVI (WWJ) - Apple's newest version of the iPad is bringing out the crowds in the U.S. and 9 other nations.

There was no waiting for customers walking into the Apple Store in Novi.  That's where WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting found Dearborn Heights resident Dan Dickhudt walking out with his new tech toy.

"It was an excellent experience . They have a lot of staff that really helps you and will show you what to do and how to do it, so the customer to staff ratio was incredibly good," Dickhudt said.

Dickhudt said his wife got the old iPad. "So this will be mine ..." he said.

For Liang Li of Northville, the improved camera and resolution were major factors in convincing her to upgrade from the two other iPad models she already owns.

"Oh, I used it a lot," Li said. "To see movies, reading novels and email and whatever I can do ... I use less TV, but I enjoy it."

Bevin Kowal, the southern Michigan manager for Verizon Wireless, was checking out activity at the Apple Store in Novi's Twelve Oaks Mall, since it's the first Apple device to operate on Verizon's LTE network.

"Very nice device with great new technology and really, when you look at the iPad and look at what it provides as far as video and the  picture quality  that seamless streaming and the ability for you to go ahead and watch a video uninterrupted, and be able to go ahead and watch a movie without any buffering or any delay, is part of the experience that we're trying to drive," Kowal said.

Want the 3 but have the 2?  CBS News reports trade-in value for the 16 gigabyte (Wi-Fi) iPad 2 ranges from $205 for a tablet in good condition to $50 for a tablet with some damage. If you've had your tablet engraved, the trade-in value drops to $120. The price for a 64 GB (Wi-Fi + 3G) model is $320 for a tablet in good condition. Of course, you could always sell your iPad on Amazon or eBay.
