Woman Shot While Walking With Baby, Almost Raped, Left Critical

DETROIT (WWJ) - Charges could come soon for a man accused of shooting at and attacking a woman as she pushed a stroller in Detroit.

Police say the attack happened around 12:30 p.m. Thursday near Evergreen and Lyndon on Detroit's west side.

The woman was pushing her 6-month-old daughter down the street in a stroller when a man grabbed her and forced her behind a vacant house, made her strip and tried to rape her, police said. She somehow broke free, and as she fled on foot, he opened fire.

The woman, who is in her 30s, is hospitalized in critical condition and her child is now with relatives.

The man, an unidentified 19-year-old, was later found and arrested. He remains in custody. Police say he may be wanted in connection with other rapes and shootings in the area.
