Detroit In Spotlight Fighting International Crime

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit is one of the few U.S. cities playing host to a delegation of law enforcement officials from around the globe.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis reports that the overseas delegation is learning more about international crime fighting in Detroit.

It's part of the U.S. State Department's international visitor leadership program and six people from different countries are in town checking out the city's crime fighting techniques; especially in areas of illegal immigration and trafficking.

Iaonnis Androulakis is with the Ministry of Justice in Greece.

"Ninety percent of the illegal immigration ... you do it through the border, with Turkey the Greek-Turkish border," said Androulakis.

"The theme of this visit is cooperation and fighting international crime," said Peter Monteque with the U.S. State Department.

Members of the delegation also met with the federal immigration and customs enforcement unit in Detroit.
