Suspect In Detroit Woman's Killing Commits Suicide

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are learning more about the murder of a young mother, killed in front of her child, from a suicide note.

Police told Newsradio 950 that the suicide note came from a man who was found dead Wednesday morning in Royal Oak.

Investigators believe he had been dating 29-year-old Shalonna Dowdell who was gunned down Tuesday outside her Detroit home on West Outer Drive as her 5-year-old daughter watched.

Police said the man was being followed by officers when he pulled into a tire store parking lot on Woodward Ave. early Wednesday morning.

He then shot himself, leaving behind the note, confessing to the woman's killing.

No names have been officially released, but family members have ID'd the slain woman as Dowdell.
