Mich. St. President New NCAA Exec. Committee Chair

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The NCAA Executive Committee has elected Michigan State president Lou Anna Simon as its next chair.

Simon's appointment was announced Thursday and is effective immediately. She replaces Oregon State President Ed Ray, whose term on the committee expired at the end of the group's meeting on Wednesday.

Simon's term as chair will last through August 2014. She was appointed to the executive committee in 2010 and has served as a member of the Division I board of directors since 2010.

The 20-member NCAA Executive Committee is the association's overarching governing panel. Simon has been Michigan State's president for seven years.
