6 Injured In Apartment Fire In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ)- UPDATE: Six people are in the hospital Friday night after a fire at the Parkstone Apartments on the city's east side.

Detroit fire crews are worked to contain the blaze at the apartments on Parker Street near Van Dyke and Jefferson.

WWJ's Newsradio's Lance Howard reported from above the scene in Chopper 950 .

"At least one apartment is burning, on the fifth or sixth floor fire crews appear to have that under control, steam and water coming out of the windows at this time," said Howard.

Howard said there was smoke coming out of the top of the building as well, suggesting that it may be coming from the stairway or elevator.

It is reported that the fire started around 4 p.m. in a fourth floor apartment. Officials said most residents of the 11-story complex will be able to go back to their units tonight.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
