The Race Is On To Get Packages Shipped In Time For Christmas

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - For Federal Express, this is the busiest shipping day of the year. Nick Bratton is the Operations Manager at the FedEx office in Southfield.

Bratton said he expects that when the final numbers are in, over 10,000 packages will have been shipped through his office in one day.

Bratton said if you don't have your packages out yet ... there is still time.

"The 14th (of December) is actually the cutoff from free shipping to guarantee from ground ...to Christmas (Eve) delivery," said Bratton. "With us, the last shipping day is the 22nd (of December) where we can guarantee Christmas Eve delivery."

Bratton's office is shipping double the amount as last year, adding all of the drivers are on overtime.

"Our couriers love it - they are working longer hours but we take care of them, provide them with food," he said.

Bratton said shipping is expected to be up by over two million packages nationwide this year, due to the large numbers of people taking advantage of the free shipping online.
