Police: Woman Killed In Dispute Over Escort Services

REDFORD (WWJ) - There's been another murder in metro Detroit connected to the website backpage.com.

Redford police say a 22-year old Lathrup Village man met a 22-year old Detroit woman on the site and they hooked-up at a hotel on Telegraph Road in Redford Township in November.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Crittenden says the two got into an argument and the Lathrup Village man, Kevin Meyers, allegedly shot and killed the woman, Porshe Wright, over money.

"He was there and he was supposed to get a certain amount of time for a certain amount of money, but we never had a direct discussion of what that would entail," Crittenden told WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis. "He gave her $60."

This latest crime was reported on the same day a Sterling Heights man faced a pre-trial hearing, charged in the deaths of four woman, including three who had promoted themselves as escorts-for-hire on Backpage. (More on this story, here).

In August, a Warren police officer was shot in the chest as he arrived to intervene in a dispute over escort services advertised on the website. And, earlier last summer, federal agents, in a multi-state crackdown, rescued six young teens who were forced to work as prostitutes in Metro Detroit.  They were advertised on backpage and other adult websites.

Backpage, much like the classified website Craigslist, lists a variety of services available, including automotive and real estate.
