EASTPOINTE (WWJ) – An Eastpointe bank branch was forced to close even before it opened for business on Tuesday.

A pickup truck went out of control and crashed into the First State Bank at the corner of 10 Mile Road and Hayes, taking out part of a wall and crushing the frame of the entranceway.

WWJ Newsradio 950’s Ron Dewey spoke with a man who was next door at a restaurant when it happened.

“The guy come in right behind me and he said a guy smashed into it — too out the signs and everything,” said the man. “We thought maybe it was a medical [emergency] or may be he was drunk; but apparently his brakes just gave out.”

The driver of the pickup was taken to an area hospital to be checked out.

The two employees who were inside the bank at the time of the crash were unhurt.

The incident remains under investigation.
