Motorist Who Hit Young Pedestrian Faces Charges

REDFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - An Oakland County man who wasn't supposed to be driving is facing criminal charges after allegedly hitting a girl walking along Inkster Road.

James Gottschalk of Highland was arraigned on Wednesday on a charge of driving on a suspended license causing a serious injury after the 13-year old was hit near 7 Mile Road on Monday afternoon.

Two days later, the girl remained hospitalized in stable condition. She is facing more surgery and has a concussion.

Redford Township police said alcohol was not a factor, but fatigue may have played a part in the accident.
