DETROIT (WWJ) - Four people were killed and three injured in a crash on I-94 eastbound near Gratiot Ave. early Sunday morning. The freeway was closed for five hours as a result of the accident.

Detroit Police Sergeant Michael Woody says a car went off the embankment above the freeway during a chase and crashed into a pick-up killing all three passengers. A passenger in the first vehicle was also killed.

What about the other car involved in the original chase?

"The second vehicle actually did impact at the same point that the first vehicle went over the embankment . The air bags did deploy . The driver of the vehicle was also conveyed to the hospital. He is being detained at this time by the Detroit Police Department for further questioning."

The driver of the first car, a female , is in critical condition and two others hospitalized.

Sgt. Woody says they believe it all started as a dispute between a boyfriend and his girlfriend.
