Detroiters Ready To Retire In Record Numbers According To Survey
DETROIT (WWJ) - More metro Detroiters are ready for retirement compared to other regions.
In a new survey released Tuesday from Ameriprise Financial it appears that more folks in the area are thinking ahead to their golden years.
Detroit ranks surprisingly high, number 2 out of 30, on an index of retirement readiness that according to Ameriprise Financial.
The survey was taken before Detroit filed for Chapter 9 Bankruptcy protection.
Was the city's financial crisis a factor among those considering retirement?
Alicia Botti, an adviser with Ameriprise Financial in Northville tells WWJ's Stephanie Davis that the economic conditions in the city may have been a factor.
"Well, it's hard to know the specifics because it is a survey and it was run right before Detroit declared bankruptcy," said Botti. "But the general economic woes of the city may have made people a little more aware of the need to be proactive about their own planning."
