Ford Blue Oval Scholars Get New Website

DETROIT (WWJ) -- An enhanced Ford Blue Oval Scholars website debuts this month as students across the country embark on a new academic year. The web portal, www.fordscholars.org, is designed to be an invaluable tool for scholars and their families.

Scholars across the country who have received or seek to receive support from Ford Motor Company will find information on scholarships and competitions, as well as volunteer opportunities and career information.

"The updated Ford Scholar website seems to truly be a wonderful resource, bringing together many tools to help young adults succeed in advancing their career and mature as future leaders. I truly appreciate Ford Scholars' continued efforts to help educate and empower the many communities that need support," says Sam Appel, a student at Michigan State University and a Ford Blue Oval Scholar.

Among the projects detailed on the site are Ford Community Corps projects at various universities and colleges throughout the country. These service learning initiatives match students with local nonprofit organizations. All the projects are designed to be self sustaining and improve the quality of life in a community.

"The site supports our young scholars along their journey from the point where they identify a project to be funded; to the time they are ready to launch their professional careers," says Mike Schmidt, director of Education and Community Development, Ford Motor Company Fund. "It is also a place where they can see what others have done and re-imagine their own future."

Additionally, fordscholars.org highlights Ford Fund's innovative programs aimed at challenging students to become tomorrow's leaders. These include the Ford College Community Challenge Grant competition and Ford Driving Dreams Essay Contest.

Students can also access information about internships and employment opportunities at Ford Motor Co.
