DEARBORN (CBS Detroit) – It’s patently prejudiced, but black cats sometimes get a bad rap — which can keep them from finding loving homes.

The Dearborn Animal Shelter has an abundance of adorable black-coated cats and kittens in its care right now and is offering a “Black Fur-Day” special to help encourage potential adopters to bring home a new pet family member this busy shopping weekend.

In a playful twist on the Black Friday theme, the shelter is reducing adoption fees to only $2.50 for cats (age 6 months and older) and $25 for black kittens.  The deal is good on Friday and Saturday only, Nov. 29 and 30.

All adoption fees include sterilization, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations and priceless love and purring. 

The Dearborn Animal Shelter is located at 2661 Greenfield Road, Dearborn, and is operated by the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter, a nonprofit organization.
