$20K Reward Offered In Case Of Slain Dollar Store Owner

FERNDALE (WWJ) - A $20,000 cash reward if being offered for information in the 2010 murder of a popular dollar store owner in metro Detroit.

Karim "Gary" Khamarko was gunned down during a robbery at Dollar Club Plus on Hilton Road in Ferndale the day after Thanksgiving four years ago. The incident happened as the store was closing for the night.

A customer found Khamarko, 64, bleeding behind the counter near the cash register and called 911. Khamarko was still alive when police arrived, but later died from the gunshot wounds.

Khamarko's family tried to carry on the business after his death but found it to be too emotional and eventually closed shop.

Khmarko was described as an incredibly devoted father, grandfather and husband. He enjoyed making barbecue dinners, gardening, fixing things around his home and most of all, playing with his grandchildren. Those who knew Khmarko said everything he did in life was for his family.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward of up to $20,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone who has information is urged to call 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips can also be submitted online at www.1800speakup.org, or by texting "CSM" and your tip to CRIMES (274637).

All calls and cash rewards are completely anonymous.
