2 Dead, Alcohol Likely A Factor In M-15 Crash
GOODRICH, Mich. (WWJ) - Two people were killed in a freeway accident involving a car and a box truck near the Oakland-Genesee County line.
It happened early Friday morning along M-15 at Horton Road, south of Goodrich.
Genesee County Under Sheriff Christopher Swanson said the driver of a produce truck involved in the accident was not at fault.
"That witness in the box truck said that as he was traveling southbound the vehicle in front of him was swerving in and out of the lanes," Swanson told WWJ's Laure Bonnell.
The truck driver slowed to try to avoid the other vehicle, Swanson said, but the car swerved into the northbound lanes — hitting the truck head-on before running underneath.
Swanson said a preliminary investigation points to alcohol, speed and carelessness as factors in the crash.
"The two individuals, a 30 and a 34-year-old male from the Grand Blanc, Waterford area — one of each — they were seat-belted, but only the one was left in the car," Swanson said. "The other one was ejected ... (Both) had head injuries and were found to be dead on scene."
The Grand Blanc man was the driver, Swanson said.
The truck driver was treated for minor injuries.
The names of the victims are not being released at this time.
