Injunction Stops New Rules For Charitable Gambling
LANSING (AP) - A judge has stopped new regulations on Las Vegas-style charitable gambling events in Michigan.
Court of Claims Judge Pat Donofrio on Friday issued a temporary restraining order after the Michigan Charitable Gaming Association, 11 charities and three suppliers challenged the new rules.
The rules were enacted earlier this month by the state Gaming Control Board and include limiting the number of days for poker rooms hosting "millionaire party" events. Poker rooms also can take 45 percent of profits instead of the current 50 percent split with charities.
Donofrio says the economic harm to groups seeking the injunction "outweighs the harm" to the state and Gaming Control Board if the injunction is issued.
The judge will talk to both sides by phone on June 12.
