1001 Laughs Dearborn Comedy Festival Features Funnyman Mo Amer

DEARBORN (WWJ) - If you like to laugh, Dearborn is the place to be this weekend.

Stand-up comedian Mo Amer will be headlining the 1001 Laughs Dearborn Comedy Festival at the Arab American National Museum Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21-22.

Amer leads the lineup of 12 local, national and international performers, which includes Mike Batayeh (Breaking Bad), Mike Easmeil and Jennifer Jajeh.

Amer, who has been doing comedy for 15 years, told WWJ's Zahra Huber that he uses classic story telling for his routine.

"My name is Mohammad, and it's the most popular name in the world. I went to Disneyland three weeks ago, not one key chain with my name on it," Amer said.

Most of the performers at the event are of Arabic decent, Amer said, and he's hoping the comedy can help bring everyone together.

"What we're trying to do here with the festival is to introduce people to our culture, introduce it to stand-up comedy," he said. "And if people just do stand-up, it's not necessarily just going to be an Arab thing, it just happens to be a lot of Arab comics on the bill."

Shows take place on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Tickets are $20, or $18 for Museum members. They can be purchased at the door, or online at www.1001laughs.com.
