Movie Theaters Pull "The Interview"

By: Sara

has decided to pull the release of "The Interview" for fear of an attack on U.S. soil, what is an irreverent and independent movie theater supposed to do to express their feelings on the situation? For the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Dallas, the answer is to show another movie that does not put the leadership of North Korea in a good light. Instead of James Franco and Seth Rogen, Alamo customers will be able to watch the all marionette cast of "Team America: World Police".

In "Team America" the main villain is a puppet version of the now deceased Supreme Leader Kim Jung Il (father of North Korea's current leader Kim Jung Un). The spoof musical by "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone came out in 2004 and sparked no reaction from the North Korean government at the time, even though it featured SEVERAL unflattering scenes starring Jung Il.

On its website for the event, the Alamo Drafthouse is promising to turn the movie into a singalong and quote-a-long:

"We'll have subtitles for all the songs and all of our favorite quotes, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to scream out 'AMERICA! F--K YEAH!' at the top of your lungs. And yeah, we will have American flags, red white and blue streamers, balloons, and more for everyone. And THAT is how true American heroes will be celebrating this year, but if you want to let the terrorists win...well, that's your prerogative."

The Drafthouse plans to do their "Team America" showing on December 27, but if you can't get to Texas, you can always do your own showing in your living room with a DVD or Netflix.

UPDATE: Paramount Pictures has informed all movie theaters that were planning on showing "Team America: World Police" instead of "The Interview" that they are not allowed to do so.
