'Just Baked' Closing 10 Metro Detroit Locations

LIVONIA (WWJ) -- Sorry cupcake lovers, a popular Michigan-based treats shop is closing its doors.

Just Baked is shutting the doors of all ten of its corporate-owned stores in Michigan and in parts of Ohio. The company's brand ambassador Josh Fishman said that the stores expanded too quickly and they have to reevaluate the business.

"I know that the brand has such strong recognition locally and now we've expanded it in Ohio," Fishman said. "I will always stand by the quality of our product as well, so we know that we have something to offer to the community going forward, it's just a matter of making it make sense."

Fishman said that despite their decision to close, they never thought the business would boom like this when they started in 2009 in Livonia.

"When my mom started the company, she was baking for a couple of wholesale accounts in local grocery stores," Fishman said. "Then she found an open sign in front one day when she over-baked and had an old dusty cash register that happened to still have a few dollars in it, she said."

Non-corporate stores are staying open in Canton, Southgate, Southfield and Ann Arbor. Fishman said that they hope to find a way to provide their customers with cupcakes again.
