TUSCARORA TWP., Mich. (WWJ/AP) – A 37-year-old Monroe man has died in a snowmobile accident after authorities say he crashed into trees in Cheboygan County.

The accident happened early Saturday morning along the Gaylord to Mackinaw City Railroad Trail System in Tuscarora Township.

Police say they arrived on the scene and found the driver of the snowmobile less than two miles south of a road near the Indian River. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say it appears the snowmobile went off the trail and hit several trees. Investigators believe speed and alcohol were factors in the fatal crash, WPBN-TV reported.

The man’s name has not yet been released.
