Black History: Empowering The Next Generation Is Passion For Dara Munson

DETROIT (WWJ) - Dara Munson is the Chief Operating Officer of Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan which is nearly 26,000 girls strong.

She has a passion for empowering kids.

"It's about them experiencing and understanding their potential. We need girls to be leaders, we need to help them grow up understanding that they have a voice. We want to help them get in the room - get a seat at the table and once they are at the table have a voice; Boy and Girl Scouts does that. We are about building girls of courage, character and confidence who make the world a better place," said Munson.

"The cookies program is the largest literacy program for girls in the country - which is really, really major," said Munson. She says it plays a role in teaching the girls leadership skills.

Before her role with the Girl Scouts, Munson was president and CEO of Big Brothers, Big Sisters for seven years.

"Helping them to realize those dreams can come true - we just want them to dream ... the dream possible and to be there and support them in that," she says.

Dara Munson, an everyday hero, especially for kids.
