Louie Anderson To Bring Comedy Act To Detroit In Support Of Fundraiser

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Comedian Louie Anderson is coming to Detroit on May 15 to support a cause that is near to him.

Anderson will headline the "Make Your Date" fundraiser at MGM Grand to raise money to help expectant mothers deliver healthy full-term babies. He said that it is important that women get the help they need.

"Lots of girls, lots of women are having babies when they're single and they need some incentive to go and have these checkups," Anderson said. "I think Detroit has double the mortality rate for premature babies, so I think that it's a really good cause."

The fundraiser is May 15 at the MGM Grand Detroit. Proceeds from the event benefit Make Your Date, launched by the city of Detroit in 2014. The program was designed by the Detroit Medical Center, Wayne State University, the city's leading health systems and other key partners to help expectant mothers deliver healthy full-term babies.

"I do lots of benefits, but this benefit seemed to be a no-brainer," Anderson said. "Some people may think, 'well why would he be involved in it?' When you come from a large family all of you siblings are dear to you."

Anderson said that his mother and sisters lost children prematurely.

"My act is family friendly, clean and I'm not attacking anyone in my act," Anderson said. "But I guess the stance I'll take on this that I'm there to entertain the people who have cared enough to donate the money."

Tickets for the celebration are $250 per person or $500 per person for a meet and greet with Anderson, VIP reception and photographs. The cost includes cocktails, dinner, show and complimentary valet parking.
