Kellen Moore Downplays Significance Of Him Taking Some Second-Team Reps In OTAs

CBS DETROIT - When media members swarmed around Detroit Lions backup quarterback Kellen Moore after practice Wednesday, the passer looked a little puzzled. The hubbub sprang from Moore splitting second-team reps in practice with fellow backup Dan Orlovsky.
Moore, who has never played in a regular season NFL game, has been the third-stringer for three years, most recently behind Orlovsky and previously behind Shaun Hill. However, during the 2014 preseason Moore did complete 35 of 51 passes, good for 68.6 percent.
Moore taking a portion of the second-team reps, as he also did Tuesday, when practice was closed to media, seems to suggest the Lions are giving Moore more of a chance to win the No. 2 job this season.
Moore declined to speculate Wednesday on what exactly it means that he has gotten to take some second-team reps.
"We'll see what happens," Moore said. "Obviously at the end of the day, come the season, everyone's got a role, and you do that role to the best of your ability. We'll see what happens. Right now we're just getting out here, getting reps. It's just been nice."
The quarterback seemed to go out of his way to not give up anything definitive about whether he or Orlovsky might have an edge in the competition.
"Dan'll take some twos, then I'll take some twos, we'll just go back and forth and make sure everything kind of evens out," Moore said.
"There's no definitive system here," Moore added. "At the end of the day, probably over the course of the whole offseason, hopefully each of us get a few reps in each situation."
