DETROIT (WWJ) – A tour exploring Arab American history in Detroit kicks off this weekend.

The culinary walking tour, called “Yalla Eat,” gives participants a chance to get inside the Arab American businesses and culture in and around Detroit’s Eastern Market.

Yalla in Arabic means “let’s go.”

“Participants not only get to see the full Eastern Market experience, because we visit vendors ion the market as well as the brick and mortar buildings on the surrounding streets, which a lot of people may have never been into. So we’ll see everything that may go into a typical Arab American meal,” said Matthew Stiffler with the Arab American Museum in Dearborn.

Those on the tour will also get a chance to sample some Arabic food.

Tours take place Tuesdays and Saturdays from May 30 through June 13.
