Vigil For Family Of Mom And Son Found Murdered In Southgate

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A gathering was held Wednesday evening in Southgate to light candles and pray for the family of a mother and son found murdered in their home.

Vigil MomSon 2 (SDavis)A minister prayed for the family of 28-year-old Courtney Durr and her 10-year old son Sumari Das that was followed by a love line where family members were embraced individually by the crowd.

Shannon Hendricks is one of Durr's nine siblings.

"I'm just overwhelmed by the love and support -- how many people just loved her, I'm just so grateful," she told WWJ's Stephanie Davis.

And Hendricks offers forgiveness: "I'm angry that he took my sister's life but I forgive him and I'm just grateful that he's been caught and incarcerated."

Durr and her son were found murdered inside their Southgate apartment this week.

An ex-convict, Antoine Beck, is accused of killing the pair and fleeing in Durr's car.

The 33-year-old Beck was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder, larceny and unlawful use of a car. He didn't have an attorney on record as of Monday afternoon.

Police said the mother and son were found dead by family members around 10 p.m. Sunday inside their home near Northline and Dix roads near an elementary school.
