Detroit Man Convicted Of Sex Trafficking After Luring Teens With Promise Of Cell Phones, Clothes

DETROIT (WWJ) - A federal jury has convicted a Detroit man of sex trafficking.

Prosecutors say 36-year-old Willie Curry found two Mt. Pleasant teens and lured them to Detroit by promising them new clothes and cell phones.

Instead, the 15 and 16-year-old girls were forced to have sex with strangers.

Another victim was able to escape from a home and told police about the teens.

Curry, who was also convicted on child porn charges, faces up to 15-years in prison when sentenced in December.

"This defendant preyed on young, vulnerable victims, using false promises, threats and violence to compel them to engage in sex acts for his own profit," U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said. "Sex traffickers like this one treat human beings like commodities to be traded for cash."

Curry, who was also convicted on child porn charges, faces up to 15-years in prison when sentenced in December.
