Suspect Caught On Video In Theft Of Cash Box At Beaumont Hospital

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Police are looking for tips to help identify a young man caught on camera in a theft at Oakwood Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn.

Police say the suspect, around 18 to 25 years old, made off with the cash box from the valet cashier's desk, while employees were busy helping customers outside.

Hospital security footage shows the suspect, wearing a backpack, walk behind the valet cashier's desk while it was unoccupied. The suspect bent down, out of camera view, near the cabinet where the cash box is located.  A few seconds later, he walked away carrying the backpack in hand.

When employees returned to the cashier's desk the cash box was missing. During that time, video surveillance (above) was able to capture the suspect leaving through the Medical Building hallway.

It happened Saturday, Sept. 5, at 7:40 p.m.

"We strongly encourage anyone with information to come forward and assist us in identifying the suspect in this case," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad, in a release.

Anyone who reorganizes the man in the photos or video can call the Dearborn police anonymous tip line at 313-943-3012.
