Michigan Town Celebrates Face-Lift At Old Corset Factory
ISHPEMING, Mich. (AP) - An Upper Peninsula factory that put corsets on women for decades is being celebrated in many ways this week, including a play called "Revolutionary Brassieres."
The Gossard Corset factory in Ishpeming operated from 1920 to 1976. The Mining Journal reports that the three-story building has had a face-lift, thanks partly to a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
The owners, Paul and Sandy Arsenault, are expecting 100 to 150 people Sunday for a play about the factory's workers. It will take place on the old assembly line floor.
On Tuesday, a special wall will be unveiled to honor more than 900 people who worked at the corset factory.
