DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit’s City Clerk is looking to the future — one where she’s a congresswoman.
City Clerk Janice Winfrey told WWJ Newsradio 950 that she’s throwing her hat in the ring to run for the 13th Congressional seat against long serving Congressman John Conyers.
Winfrey, 57, has been the city clerk for ten years. Nothing is official yet, but the elementary school math teacher could announce her intentions in the coming days. She told WWJ’s Stephanie Davis that she’s filed necessary paperwork and is “seriously considering” her options.
Conyers, 86, has been in office since 1965 and is up for re-election in 2016. He’s the longest-serving active member of U.S. House of Representatives.
