Record-Breaking Night On The Field For Nolan Givan: Student Hero

BERKELY (WWJ) - During a high school football season every team experiences the highs and lows of winning and losing -- but not everyone gets to experience record breaking performances.

Berkley High School fans and players had a front row seat to history being made back on September 25 as senior wide receiver Nolan Givan re-wrote the record book by putting up 300 yards receiving and five touchdowns on just 7 catches in a come from behind victory over Auburn Hills Avondale.

Givan admits that as the game went along he knew something special was happening, but just didn't know how much.

"In the back of my mind, I obviously thought about it, but I was just trying to do everything I could so we could secure the win, because they would push back every time after I would score -- but I didn't really realize how huge it was, until after the game," said Givan, "everyone was screaming about it -- it was pretty amazing."

Berkley's head football coach Chris Sikora meanwhile said he's not surprised at Nolan's record-breaking performance, or his humbleness after, as he is the true definition of what a student athlete should be ...

"You know, everything you want from a player as far as fast, physical, learns fast, motivates others -- but I think a lot of other people think don't get an opportunity to see what he is off the field - showing our school with high academics and the attitude of not settling at average but pushing yourself in everything you do," said Sikora.

In fact Nolan has a 3.5 GPA and plans to get into the medical field while attending Fordham University in the Bronx where he is currently committed to play next season, but admits school is what comes first.

"I think school is definitely something that is important for every athlete or anyone who ever has dreams to do big things in college because you know football could end at any moment - I just want to make sure I have a back up plan for myself - so I'll have a future," said Givan.

Congratulations Nolan, you're truly a student hero!
