Lance Moore Feeling Career Rejuvenation This Season With Detroit Lions

By Danny Cox

The Detroit Lions don't have a lot to be happy about this season, but they did just get their first win of the year thanks to Calvin Johnson's heroics against the Chicago Bears. It finally appears as if the Lions offense is coming around and showing true signs of life, and one of the reasons is the career rejuvenation of wide receiver Lance Moore.

For years, Moore sprinted around the field in a prolific New Orleans Saints' offense and danced his way into the end zone. After seven seasons though, injuries cut his time on the field and his production went down while younger players moved ahead of him on the depth chart. Moore was released by the Saints in 2014 and signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his one season with the Steelers, Moore had one of the worst seasons of his career as he caught just 14 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Pittsburgh released him after the season was over. At this point, many wondered if the 31-year-old wide receiver's time in the NFL had ended and it was time for him to simply fade into obscurity. Well, he wasn't about to let that happen.

"I'm not worried about last year," Moore said. "I'm worried about my job now and that's to come here and do whatever it takes to help this team win. The rest of that stuff will take care of itself."

Well, that's exactly what Lance Moore is doing now and is truly helping the Lions win.

This past Sunday against the Bears, Moore had his best game as a Lion by far when he had five receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown. Combining those numbers with the great game that Calvin Johnson had, the Lions were able to get off the losing streak and chalk up their first win of the season. Better yet, Lance Moore is enjoying football again.

He's currently on track to finish the season with 608 yards which would be his best year since 2012 when he had 1,041 yards with the Saints. If he does hit the 608 yard mark, Moore would become the best third wide receiver for the Lions since Titus Young back in 2011.

The best thing for the Lions is that Moore is helping them while injuries continue to pile up. Tight end Brandon Pettigrew missed some time due to injury and now tight end Eric Ebron is out with a knee problem. Lance Moore is filling a void and showing he still has what it takes to succeed and help his team win.
